It’s incredibly fascinating to observe how people interact with me in any type of group interaction.
Not necessarily in a good way.
Whether at an in-person meetup, a WhatsApp group or a public thread…
The signs are often subtle, but crystal clear: People don’t like my feedback, advice or contributions –
even when they have specifically asked for them.
***
I tell you how I know and before I do, here’s a disclaimer: I don’t need anyone to come in and invalidate my experience, gaslight what/how I feel and what I can see – just because you can’t… I had this my whole life so thanks, I am good.
These signs are telling on you
Now that this is out of the way, here’s how I know.
I am autistic and studies have shown that over 80% of neurotypicals automatically don’t like autistic people when they meet them, without reason or being able to pinpoint why they don’t like them.
Even though I may not be great at reading social cues, I am exceptional at reading energies and recognizing patterns (more advanced than most people).
It has gotten me into trouble more often than not, but I was usually right about it.
So when I see patterns of these signs, I know that people don’t actually like me without reason:
• In a group conversation (in person) they, often unconsciously, react slightly annoyed or less enthusiastic about my contributions or try to change topics while I speak vs when they are speaking to others in the group
• In a WhatsApp group thread when they asked a question, they reacted to every single person’s answer who responded with an emoji – but mine
• In a room when I meet new people, I am not asked for my name & who I am, when everyone else has
• The change of body and facial language during an in-person meetup when they are rejecting you (whether it’s conscious or unconscious)
• In online group chats singling out my response as negative but thanking everyone else when my response was no different than those from the other people
How does it work in real life
I have more examples that are more subtle and partially hard to explain without writing a novel on them as a lot has to do with tonality, body and facial language, and simply their energy which is difficult for me to describe how I can sense the changes and why this translates to them not liking me ..
If you don’t like someone, that’s fine.
But why not just say that or be honest instead of playing this weird pretend play?
Just don’t invite me, don’t have me in your WhatsApp group and please just don’t talk to me!
That is much easier for me to understand and process and “get over with” than having to figure out this unnecessary and deceiving “let’s be polite” kinda game.
Please leave it. It sucks. It wastes my time and energy more than anything else and I promise I don’t like you that much either.
I really wonder why neurotypicals have such a hard time being honest with others let alone with themselves.
If we would, just imagine the world we could create together ☀️
